3.5k run
These lovely ladies must have shared some of their very positive running energy with me today. For those who don't know us all, this is Tesso, Clairie, Lulu, me and Hannah, having breakfast at Racecourse Rd this morning to celebrate Lulu's visit to Brisbane.
It was great to catch up with the girls again, and especially to meet the lovely Lulu after exchanging many emails. Please note that both Lulu and Hannah were wearing heels in this photo. I may be short, but I don't think I've officially reached midget status yet.
I had a much needed day off work today, so after breakfast I went to the gym and did 5k on the treadmill; 3.5k running and 1.5k walking, with the treadmill on 1% incline. Even though I was pretty confident of my accuracy in measuring my 3k run the other day, it was very encouraging to see the numbers confirmed today. I'm feeling incredibly positive about running at the moment, and I can't thank you all enough for getting me through a very rough year to the point where I can run 3.5k again! It's difficult to comprehend how this distance can seem so short and yet so long at the same time!
OK - now to operational matters. After the 3k on Monday I was in serious pain on Tuesday. I woke up at 4.30 and had to spend half an hour putting heat packs on just about every joint and muscle from my neck to ankles before I could get up and walk around. So I'm thinking I might try for a three day cycle. One day running, the next day resting, heating and yoga and the third day cycling or swimming. I did an extended yoga session yesterday and even though it hurts I'm sure it's the way to go. Plus I need to keep up my daily ROM exercises and the vegan glucosamine and the zinc and the flaxseed oil.......
I'm SO happy today :)

It's great to hear that the running and social life is getting back into action . . . your patience and persistence has been an inspiration.
Take care of the pain though - are you sure that heat is the correct treatment? I'd hat for you may make it worse.
The 3 day cycle sounds good. Take Care and recover quickly, please!
Wow - I didn't know that the Miss Bris-Vegas quest was on today???
Great to hear you had another great run Cirque - I like the 3 day cycle approach - have you ever tried ice packs instead of heat?
Good to see you happy too :-)
Our little brekky put me in a good mood for the day too. Though unlike you I went home and had a nanna nap :-)
That's such great news about your run. And what a great exercise plan.
Take it easy. See ya soon.
Yay! This morning was great fun :) We really should do it more often!
Thanks for the piccies too :) Great stuff :)
Lovely Ladies ;-).
Glad you all had a good time and that you had a good run. While I've not been well, a guy I respect very much said 'just do enough today that you can then do the same tomorrow and not be exhausted'. Made a huge difference to how I'm approching my training while not 100%. Good luck.

You are such a tough woman Cirque! Very inspirational.... you are one of the people I think about when I think I am having a tough run- so thank you!
Great photo! Tess has been in my wardrobe ;-)
Great photo - looking forward to meeting you all one day (I've met Tesso and Lulu so far).
Take care - remember 'baby steps'!
Just the best blognews there is Y. Congratulations again.
I like the idea of the 3 days cycle, however it might be even more beneficial to consider changing your days 2 & 3 around occasionally. Often you'll find that the real muscle soreness arrives 2 days after a run - and the intervening recovery swim/ride could well lessen the effect of the DOMS as well.
Another tactic (that works well for me) is to perhaps try the ice, as 2P suggested, on the night after your run - recovery swim/ride the next day - heat & general patching up and TLC the next day so you're ready for your next run at the start of the next cycle?
Best of luck whichever way you attack it! :)
Lol, Hannah and I are looking rather Amazonian in that picture! I'll wear lower shoes next time. If you keep going like that we'll be able to do a run next time I'm up. Now that would be fun!
..and don't all you girls look fantastic. I'm sure glad I picked running to get into. Seems all the good looking babes are into it too!
A 3 day cycle sounds perfect!
You inspire me :-)
((((((JOC)))))))
Hannah is tall enough as it is, without dwarfing us by wearing heels!
