Can't help myself - bad habits
Tuesday a.m.
Yoga
Tuesday p.m.
40 minute bike ride
I resisted the temptation - but once again after a really long, stressful day at work the thoughts of sitting down and relaxing with a lovely glass of red wine were uppermost in my mind on the hour long drive home. The trouble is that for most of my life I've exercised in the morning, so it's become a bit of a habit to come home and have a glass of wine while doing whatever it is that parents do in peak hour. Unfortunately this doesn't translate too well to mornings like today when I had to leave home before six and would have had to have been up at 4.30 to do my bike ride. I am definitely NOT that dedicated.
Anyway, I chanted my "wine bad - exercise good" mantra all the way home and it worked. I think I'm starting to get the hang of the steering now and I'm enjoying the bike a lot more so thanks to everyone for your help.
I know the rest of it has really just become a bad habit and I need to change my mindset. Not the wine necessarily, but the expectation that I have to veg once I get home. I'll need to do the round trip from Carina to Ipswich via the city to drop C2 at school by 6.30 or 7 o'clock for three mornings a week this year, so I'll need to be a bit more flexible in the times I exercise or I'll start missing too many sessions. Plus it's probably a really good idea to do something physical when I get home after being in a very sedentary job all day with two hours driving tagged on.
Feel free to adminster kicks up the butt if you hear me say otherwise...........

Those bad rabbits are evil - the only way to exercise in the afternoon is do it as soon as you get home - once you go into veg mode you are lost!
....or maybe get an exercise bike and then you could drink and ride at the same time! I guess it wouldn't improve your steering skills though...
I have to admit that I find kicks up the butt difficult to administer to one who has as much going on as yourself.
In fact, I think you are pretty good at self-administering your kicks up the butt (the yoga must be giving you the flexibility to allow this).
Well done on resisting the temptations of sloth!
Cheers,
Ben
Oh Cirque - this is exactly the same problem I'm having too (except it's not wine that's the attraction - the sofa on its own is enough). It really is a power struggle with the will to get back out there and do something in the afternoon - and really, that's all it comes down to.
Mind you, make sure you continue to get out there BEFORE 1 or 2 glasses of wine - we've only just got you steering the bike ...
How about the wine becomes the reward for the exercise you've done?? and maybe the occasional chocolate? Mmmm

Ha ha, when you talked about driving home then about your steering getting better for a second there I thought you meant steering the car :-)
Sorry, can't offer any advice. I am a definite afternoon/evening vegger ... Bold and the Beautiful, wine. You get the picture.
Ohhh Tess not Bold and the Beautiful :-)
Glad to see good Cirque won in the end... I am usually pooped just having those debates!
