Back to the gym today!
Today was supposed to be my first attempt at running again (although regular readers will know that I've already confessed to cheating the other day and having a teensy little trial).
However today I was actually allowed to try, so I felt very virtuous as I stepped up to the treadmill.
So far....so good!
Z's initial 'brief' was that I could walk for ten minutes, with one thirty second run after a few minutes. Yeah right, like that was really gonna happen!! Under extreme sufferance Z then agreed that maybe I could run for another 30 seconds a few minutes later. So to placate young Z, who is really a very nice young person, in spite of her inability to wave a magic wand and make me a 10k runner, I set out to walk for ten minutes with 2 x 30 second runs.
Twenty minutes and 9 x 30 second runs later I can say it was a success!
So.....I believe training has now officially restarted. I'm really determined this time to try to only run every second day. And be a lot more proactive with the ice and the heat etc.
Z and I have mapped out a 'kind of' program which I will need to refine. It basically consists of three days running, one swimming, one or two pilates and the others doing some general cardio and weights.
Wish me luck!!!
PS - does anyone know whether I can really improve if I only run three times a week????

Yah !! Your program sounds great and I'm so glad you've been given the OK to run again. And yes, you will definately improve by running (only) three times per week. More than three times per week and you will risk injury - and we don't want that do we ??? No, not with your first fun run coming up soon. I can't wait to read your comments about that fabulous day !
Three times a week will certainly help you improve. Some people race on three times a week! For you, staying on top of your injuries is all that counts, so just take it real, real easy.
