Corsets and eggs
1.0 min R/1.0 min W, 17.32 mins, K's run = not enough to bother counting
Good news and bad news.
My leg was still sore on Thursday so I decided to take the advice of a wise fellow CR (thanks Skizzik) and see a physio - (Zuzanna – to be known as Z). The experience was typical of most of my visits to anyone medical. At least this one didn’t laugh, but I often wonder whether the perplexed expression comes naturally, or whether they have to learn it at med school. Anyway, the outcome was that apart from establishing that my spine and muscular system are pretty much totally dysfunctional, which I already knew, I can now add a remarkably loose pelvis and floppy glutes to my repertoire. To add to my humiliation, when I tried to do the fit ball exercises, Z discovered that I am so asymmetrical that I have to use an egg instead of a ball. This should have been obvious when she discovered that I fall over whenever I lift my right leg off the floor but I think she was in denial by that stage. I’m beginning to feel like Mrs Potato Head – all the pieces are there, but they've been put together the wrong way around. Oh and I forgot to mention that I am supposed to wear what Z refers to as a 'corset' whenever I exercise, which is like an elastic bandage that goes from my chest to the top of my thighs. She assured me I would hardly feel it but it's the hottest, prickliest thing I've ever worn. It's already been relegated to the bottom of the wardrobe.
To add to the drama, I also had a BP ‘incident’ on Thursday. I’d had a headache for a few days and I started getting the scary ‘head about to explode’ feeling that comes when my BP is playing up. So I monitored it for a while and it went up from 124/85 to170/110 in less than an hour. It’s been fluctuating ever since, so quelle est ca pour? Je ne sais pas!
And now to the good news…..
I have more exercises to do, and a lovely egg to do them on, and Z is quite supportive of my attempt to return to running as long as I take it easy and limit it to 1 min running for every 1 min walking until there is some improvement in my core muscles. I did 2 ks of that this morning plus some work on the cross trainer, the rower and the bike.
Sorry this has been such a long blog everyone :(. Thanks for your patience.

You think you write long posts - have you read mine ??
I must admit to having a bit of a giggle regarding the corset - you didn't mention that the other night ! So many people have core stability issues. I'm like you - I almost fall over when I lift my right leg off the floor thanks to my lazy left glute. It will take time to build your core strength but persevere - it will happen if you keep up the hard work. You are doing so well C - your tenacity and perservence is inspiring. Keep it up and I can't wait to read about your fun run on Mother's Day.
Corsets and Eggs - what i want to know is when do Baked Beans get a mention?
It is great to see you are back into it. I also had a giggle when you mentioned the corset - i actually snorted... lucky there were no Baked Beans around!
Seriously though - take it easy and keep moving forward. Something i am coming to realise is that these are the times to remember - this is where our true showing of character with become evident. Maybe if it was all easy we would be doing something else hey!
Stick with it - And as O Runner said "One day you'll just forget to walk...."
I so want to be forgetful!!!
Mel
How about an update ???
Keep smiling C. I really admire you; you have overcome so much and continue to set yourself high (yet achieveable) goals. Keep up the fantastic effort.
