Warwick to......?

I have no immediate goals at the moment, except to work on getting fitter, thinner and faster. Well, less slow anyway!

I've had a fantastic eight weeks or so now with hardly any pain, so I'm crossing everything that this will continue and I can do some really consistent running for a while. I've lost 7 kilos in the last few months and I'm looking forward to getting rid of another 15 or so, especially if I can stay off the dreaded medication merry-go-round that made me feel worse than I did in the first place!

Tuesday
3k run/2k walk
Apart from Warwick-induced 'lead legs' I felt pretty good and managed to do most of this a teeny bit faster than my usual 8 minute pace.

I've just taken a huge leap forward into the age of technology and bought myself an MP3 player to run with. It's so much fun! I was feeling pretty crappy after 2.5k and just as I was debating whether to stop or not it started playing "Running on empty" so I was able to keep going for another 5:27 minutes.

I've also started working on my running posture, especially trying keep my head up and relax my shoulders a bit. Jen and Owly - you'll be glad to know that after your comments while escorting me around the lake the other day I now feel too guilty to count the cracks in the pavement.

Thursday - sickness stopped play

Saturday
4k run/1.5k walk
This one was hard. I felt really tired and dizzy and my brain wanted to run but my body kept stopping without permission. I had a few wussy moments feeling sorry for myself then slapped myself around the head a bit and focussed on how lucky I was to be out there running at all. I'm a bit anaemic at the moment from the internal bleeding that goes with the stomach problems so if it doesn't settle down soon I might pop off and get some iron supplements.

On a brighter note:
My thoughts keep returning to Warwick, and in particular the memories of the 5k run. I can honestly never thank my 'Angels' enough for helping me to get through a race that I was beginning to doubt I would ever do. These girls were absolutely superb companions and in spite of/because of? my stomach troubles we managed to have a lot of laughs along the way.

Not long into the run they gave me the option of choosing whether I wanted them to:
a) engage me in conversation;
b) chatter away without any need for my response; or
c) be totally silent.

Of course I chose option B and the result was hilarious. There were a few times when I actually had to stop to walk because I couldn't laugh and run at the same time. Apparently they were following some obscure theory that if they were obnoxious enough or sang badly enough I would run faster just to get away from them. Not a chance, girls - you were way too much fun!

I particularly liked their version of the US Marines marching song:

(chanted in an authoritative tone)
I don't know but I've been told
Pause....

Umm...ah...what's next
I don't know, do you know?
No, do you know?
Don't you know? No?
You? No?
Does anyone know?
No

Umm...ah...

ok - lets start again

I don't know but I've been told
something, something, something that rhymes with told
something, something, something about running
ummm... gold or something?
yes that's it.... !!

Ok - Lets try again...

I don't know but I've been told
something, something, something gold
something, something running .............
something, something ........................

I know, how about.... ?
She'll be comin' round the mountain when she comes....
(resounding chorus)
YEEHAH!

Ha ha, what a laugh :-)

I thought you seemed decidedly thinner at Warwick, in fact a couple of us were talking about just how great you looked. 7 kilos off is fantastic. Another 15 though and you would disappear!

Ummm, they shouldn't give up their day jobs.

Keep the consistency going Cirque. The question will be answered.

I got bits crossed for ya too Cirque....

I also know at least half a dozen versions of what comes next (old army boy) unfortunately decorum dictates that I should keep them to myself ;-)
