Couch to Warwick via Southbank - Week 6
Tuesday
3.5k run/1.5k walk.
Edit:
Thursday
3.5k run/1.5k walk - no niggles - I'm excited!
Predictably, the horrible, struggly run I had on Saturday meant that today's session went really well. Thank you, Running Gods!
My speed hasn't increased at all, but I stopped less often and when I was walking home my legs felt much better and I wasn't dragging my feet the way I have been. It felt so good that I had to fight the temptation to go out again when I got home from work, but I knew that would be really, really stupid. Towards the end I had a slight niggle from the tendon that caused a lot of my problems last year, but I iced it as soon as I could so hopefully it will be OK.
It was quite cold this morning too. All the walkers were wearing long pants, jackets, beanies and gloves and I was just wearing shorts and a singlet. I definitely feel much better running when it's cold, except for all the stops to blow my nose. The slightest heat really takes it out of me and makes running almost impossible. I wonder if that's just because I'm unfit or whether some people just never really acclimatise to the heat?
I have one more 3.5r/1.5w scheduled for either Thursday or Friday and then the Mothers Day Classic 4k run on Sunday. If all goes well, this will be my first real fun run since my botched attempt when I was sick about 5 years ago. I even have a 'race plan'. The plan is to start at the back, walk until everyone is out of my way and then shuffle after them.
Hmmm.....perhaps that one lost a little in the translation.
Further edit:
As we head into winter and arthritis traditionally starts playing up, mine seems to have gone into remission. Gotta be happy with that!

I'm booked in for the MD 4k in Sydney.
I don't know if I can even manage getting up to a shuffle so you are well ahead of me :-)

That actually sounds like an excellent plan Cirque! Self ceding is good, and the mass at the start is shocking. Run your own (event) race - it's much more fun!
I hope the cirquette's are out there in force to support you!
Don't worry about speed Cirque. That will come with time.
So does that mean I get to leave my winter woolies behind when I come up to visit in 2 weeks? Woohoo - I'm looking forward to defrosting :-)
Fantastic to hear Y!!! More positives for the all important pysche week.
btw - if you want some tips on nose-blowing, talk to Owen. He and I had a little discussion on this topic.
P.S. good to see you're showing the right amount of interest over at my blog. About time too ;)
Surely they don't need 'long pants, jackets, beanies and gloves' up there?!
A good plan for Sunday - I hope it goes well.
Dont forget to have a taper Y! Its always a good feeling to start with fresh legs.
Now, why would you want to stop to blow your nose? Just check that there's no one running past you first :-)
Enjoy Sunday. 5 years is a long time to wait.

Have a great day on Sunday!
You are right - some people just don't take well to exercising in the heat. But I do think you get more used to it if you do it often. But running is also about being about to breathe in the humidity as well as run in the hot weather - so some people never adjust.
I will never adjust to running in the cold. Give me heat and humidity any day. My nose runs the whole time and my fingers drop off from the chill. Bah Humbug.
all sounds so positive Cirque, i hope you have a good time!
Its sounding very very good Cirque. And if you like running in the cold you will love Warwick - its freeeeeezing!
PS Love your new look blog, its very calming.
Sounds like it's all coming together nicely for the weekend. I'll be doing virtual cheering.
Hey Cirque - pity I'm inb Sydney not Brisbane as a running buddy for the 4km on Sunday would have been tops! nonetheless I am fairly certain that we are both going to put in top 10 performances :)
Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so happy for you chicky - have a wonderful run on Sunday. I'll be thinking of you. Can't wait to see you in 9 days :-)
Good luck for Sunday!!! But you will not need it your one tough cookie and all will go to that perfect race plan. I can't wait to hear all about it. I am so happy that arthritis is behaving at present... fingers crossed, touch wood, throw salt etc
Great stuff Cirque - good to see it all coming along nicely.
****GOOD LUCK FOR TOMORROW!!!****
I'll be thinking of you and shall be checking for race reports tomorrow night!
*hugs* **virtual CR cheersquad jumping up and down lots**
