Explanatory Blog

This is my second post for the day, and I'm really embarrassed about blogging such personal stuff but I decided to do it for two reasons:

1. CRs are probably thinking I'm an even bigger wuss than I really am, especially whan I talk about "being in pain" while I'm running; and

2. There may be someone out there who can give me some advice/help/feedback/anything?

So....here goes.....
The reason that I'm having so much trouble getting back into running is that I have a couple of medical conditions that I can't seem to get under control, even though I've spent years seeing just about every type of medical practitioner I can think of, including GPs, chiros, physios, naturopaths, podiatrists and heaps of specialists.

The first problem is spinal, a curvature problem and increasing degeneration, which is probably something I just have to live with.

The second, and probably the major problem, is arthritis (psoriatic arthritis), which is where I hope someone may be able to give some advice, because it's getting progressively worse. The problem with the PA is that every so often it just takes over my whole body while I'm asleep, so I wake up aching really badly all over and the pain can stay that way for days. Then during the next few days it usually localises into about three or four manageable areas and gradually disappears until the next time, which may be only a week or so later. As you can imagine, it makes trying to run a lot more difficult than it needs to be!

The problem is that the intensity of the pain, and the time between episodes is becoming worse and I'm unable to identify the triggers.
So....if anyone could offer any advice it would be sincerely appreciated.

Cirque, I would never think of youas a woos!! I doubt any CR would!! I have an arthritic condition with my big toe and can only imagine the levels of pain you have to endure. Glucosamine sulphate helps me a bit. Hugs Wm

Cirque - another brave and courageous gal like our friend Owl. I'm sorry I have no words of wisdom for your conditions but I truly admire your strength, determination and preserverance. LJ

Can't help you with advice sorry! BUT I can reiterate what Wobs and Jen have said...I find it hard to believe anyone would think you a wuss. Why are you so hard on yourself? Is it helpful? *hugs* from me too and soon hugs in person!! Roll on GC!

Cirque - you are one of my biggest inspirations! Please don't get down on yourself - this is what blog is here for.

As for advice, I'm sure you've tried this before, but after being a long-time sceptic I tried acupuncture earlier this year to treat a chronic achilles problem. 2 sessions was all it took, and this was after 3 months of physio not getting me anywhere.

It might not be an appropriate solution and may not work for you at all, but I do know of others who book themselves in for fortnightly visits. Best of luck :)

Thanks MR
Actually acupuncture is probably one of the few things I haven't tried. Will definitely give it a go!
