Run, run, as slow as you can
I've clocked up a few short runs since my last post.
I have no immediate goal that requires me to improve my speed or distance at the moment, so I've basically gone back to square one and I'm just doing some slow 30 minute runs every couple of days with some short walking breaks thrown in when needed.
Since my last post I've done about five or six of these on alternate days, except for missing one day (for reasons that involved a sunny Gold Coast marina and champagne) and doing two on consecutive days (because I felt like it). My almost embarrassing lack of competitive spirit, coupled with my inherent laziness, means that I've actually enjoyed these baby runs a lot more than I care to admit to my fellow runners who are always working so hard to run faster, longer and better.
And herein lies the Cirque Paradox....
While I'm totally addicted to running and can never give it up, I've also never really had any great ambition to do well at it. OK - there, I've said it! I guess I'm not a very Coolrunner at all! I actually enjoy plodding along very slowly and when everyone else powers past me, I either don't notice or I'm too busy daydreaming to care. Plus it's much nicer if it only hurts a little bit. Running is easy on PlanetCirque!

hehe - think that makes you an extra-cool-runner cirque! i think that i've maybe forgotten a bit how much i actually enjoy just running for fun - thank you for the reminder :)
How cool is the non-obsessed one? Very, I think :-) Long may the "only hurts a little bit" runs continue!
Gnome
Doesn't matter Cirque. Just as long as you enjoy it
And BTW, don't run on consecutive days while recovering from injury again! Unfortunately you & I don't have the ability to bounce back like that speed demon GG :-)
Will anything stop this lady from running? NO! Good on you Cirque! Baby steps...the way to go.
I agree with ellie80, I think you are actually a very cool runner for doing running in your own way. You're not secumbing to peer pressure. That's great. Enjoy running simply because you enjoy running!
A coolrunner is not someone who runs fast or exceeds at the sport.
A coolrunner is one that enjoys the art of running and the friendships that evolve from it.
I think we all know and love you as a coolrunner Cirque. Case closed.
You are one of the coolest runners I know Cirque. True.
Too often we become so obsessed with our times and distances we forget about the pure joy of running.
Lately I've been going watchless at least once a week ... and loving it!
Running for the sheer joy of it is the way coolest way to go.
A more perfect, saner-er view of running I've never heard.
More power to you :)
That bloody Miners, he seems to always have the capacity to say things that I am thinking - but better than I was going to say them. Good for you Cirque!
it is all about passion not ambition.
actually my favourite quote is
"A man must love a thing very much if he not only practices it without any hope of fame and money, but
even practices it without any hope of doing it well."
I've got nothing to add; they've said it all. I think it's great that you love it and do it for the sake of it.
i think tim's quote sums it up...
you are definitely a CoolRunner..
