The great outdoors
3.5k - about 2k walking and 1.5 walk/jogging.
My plan today was to try and leave work early enough to get to the gym before it got too busy. I very sneakily managed to get away at 4 o'clock (so far, so good - I love school vacations), which meant that I got home just at that glorious time of day when the sun is getting low and the weather was about as perfect as it can get. So it's no surprise that after eight hours sitting at my desk, and an hour and a half in the car, the thought of doing the sensible thing and using the rower and the bike at the gym was absolutely unbearable.
So, a quick change of plans, and I did a lap of the lake instead. I was right, it was as beautiful as I thought it would be.
My running wasn't though. I took it very slowly, but I still have pain in my shin and my knee, even doing a maximum of about 750 metres of very slow jogging. The worst thing though is that the arthritis is starting to make me really stiff, especially in my knees and hips, so I felt really clumsy and awkward while I was running. Herein lies the Cirque running paradox - today's 'run' reminded me why I so desperately want to be able to do this again, while reinforcing that I may not be able to.
But the lake really was very, very beautiful. Australia rocks!

Glad to hear you were out amongst it all on a lovely day Cirque. I drive by two gyms on the way home each day and think how sad those people are that they feel the need to run on a treadmill inside when its not even raining. Sorry your arthritis is causing havoc :(
It was a stunning day today wasn't it? Makes you realise how blessed you are.
Sorry to hear that your shin/knee is playing up again. Does running on grass help?
Take it easy lovely,
J
