Gold Coast Marathon Cheer Squad (Part One)

What an absolutely fantastic, wonderful CR weekend!!!

I can't possibly describe how much fun I had this weekend, from the time I picked Owl and Jen up from the airport on Friday morning, until now (Sunday night), when I'm experiencing serious CR withdrawal symptoms. Unfortunately (or maybe not) I'm not a great blog writer so this will be a very short summary, but I'm sure that all the other participants will fill you in in much greater detail.

After all the problems with flights being cancelled and airport closures in Queensland, we were very lucky that Owl and Jen's flights were only about an hour and a half late arriving in Brisbane on Friday morning. Just in case you hear stories from other sources, I admit that it was so exciting so finally meet up with them that I may have shed a tiny tear or two when they arrived.

So: back to Chez Cirque for tea and coffee, preliminary chat and lunch, and then Skizzik arrived so the fun could begin in earnest. I still can't run at all (shins), so Skizz took the girls for an exploratory run along the Brisbane river while I went to the gym and did really boring stuff on the rowing machine and the bike. 'Nuff said. The rest of the evening passed in sedate, ladylike conversation over a glass or two of wine, while we "fluffed" (not my expression) the pom poms, ready for cheering at the Gold Coast.

On Saturday morning we arose bright and early to discover that someone had planted five or so empty champagne and red wine bottles inside the front door, giving the appearance that we had actually had somewhat of a wild "girls' night". How rude! Anyway, (being the ladies that we are) we chose to ignore this slur on our character and drove to the Gold Coast, checked in to our apartment and then walked to the GCM expo to do our chores. We registered Bellthorpe for the 10k, checked timing chips and met up with heaps of other CR's to discuss war stories about the lengths everyone had to go to to actually get to the Coast. It was especially lovely to finally meet Miners and Plu, who I've spoken to so many times online. Then back to the apartment to get ready for dinner.

Dinner was really lovely - (many thanks to the lovely Cirque Sister and Mr Cirque Sister for organising the table at the Surf Club), and photos will be posted of the participants of the evening in due course including :
The Cirque family (plus Owl and Jen)
Hannah and friends (who apparently achieved great PB's on Sunday)
Miners (who brought Elf, Miss Ska and Larrissa)
Whaleboy
Go Girl and friends
and many others who arrived later including Plu and Bandanna

I'm sure I've missed someone so apologies in advance and I'll update later.

Part Two tomorow!!!!!!!!!! The best is yet to come.
